A subtype is one of 4 Realms plus one of 4 Moods. There are 16 Subtypes.

A behavior is a realm plus one of 4 Attitudes. There are 16 Behaviors.

A BipolarType is made up of four subtypes and a presenting behavior. There are 96 BipolarTypes.

For example, the four subtypes iSphysical intake, Fpsocial energy, eTfinancial output, and Njmental strength are associated with four BipolarTypes, each of which has a different presenting episode:

agitated depression (digest too much)
excessive iSpget physical energy: iSFp/eTNj
euphoric mania (flee too much)
excessive eTpuse financial energy: eTFp/iSNj
irritable mania (fight too much)
excessive eTjuse financial strength: eTNj/iSFp
lethargic depression (rest too much)
excessive iSjget physical strength: iSNj/eTFp

Conventional wisdom asserts that mania is excessive fight and flight and should be treated with sedatives so you will no longer be manic whereas depression is excessive rest and digest and should be treated with stimulants so you will no longer be depressed.

The BipolarType theory asserts that mania is excessive fight or flight and should be treated by doing more of the other so you will no longer be unbalanced whereas depression is excessive rest or digest and should be treated by doing more of the other so you will no longer be unbalanced.

In other words, the theory asserts that being in the e: output part of the cycle (extroverted active mood) is perfectly natural, but that focusing purely on ep: use energy (too much flight) or ej: use strength (too much fight) turns it into either euphoric or irritable mania respectively.

Similarly, being in the i: intake part of the cycle (introverted receptive mood) is perfectly natural, but that focusing purely on ij: get strength (too much rest) or ip: get energy (too much digest) turns it into either lethargic or agitated depression respectively.
